Our Q&A with Desiree Henry
We recently caught up with #TeamSolgar Ambassador, one of the fastest female athletes in British athletic history, Desiree Henry OLY for a quick-fire Q&A.
How do you keep your energy levels up on a day to day basis while training for the Olympics?
I like to take specific vitamins to help maintain my energy levels on a day to day. More specifically, I like to take Solgar’s Gentle Iron as that helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue. That is a morning go-to for me.
Do you have any advice for people trying to stay on top of their wellbeing, both mentally and physically?
So, for anyone that’s trying to stay on top of their wellbeing (physically and mentally), I would just say: “remember to rest.” Rest is just as important as any activity throughout the day. Remember, you are a human and not a robot!
How do the products that you take from Solgar help support you each day?
The products that I take from Solgar help me each day by supporting my immune system, keeping my bones nice and strong, and ultimately allowing me to relax and recover, and prepare for the next training day. Solgar's Chelated Magnesium is my night-time go-to as this helps me to relax and unwind and ultimately get the sleep that I need after a long day and even harder training session.
What advice would you give people following their passions, especially during the pandemic?
My advice for people following their passions (especially during a pandemic) is to keep going, to keep continuing to put effort into something that you enjoy and of course something that you’re passionate about - this is fantastic. Keep going and enjoy the process.
Can you share 3 tips for fitness enthusiasts when trying to improve their performance?
1. Consistency. Yes, guys, in order to reach any kind of fitness goal, you need to be consistent. That means if you say that you’re going to work out once a week, you need to stick to working out once a week. Ultimately, consistency allows you to get one step closer - each and every time - toward your main goal. You got this!
2. Push yourself. Push yourself that little bit harder. As they say: “Great things don’t come from comfort zones.” So, the next time that you’re on a run, or you’re doing that home circuit, push yourself that little bit harder. You’ll be surprised at what your body is capable of.
3. Have fun. Take it from experience, I’ve run some of my fastest times when I've honestly just gone out there and had a lot of fun. I would say to wait to find a day where your mind and your body is aligned in a way that you just feel extremely positive and I’m telling you, that will probably be one of your best sessions. Go out there and have fun.
